Both programs work in a similar way; after installing Soundstream and running either program, open or load Soundstream by selecting the appropriate menu item from the application icon on the right side of your menu bar.  QCDesktop loads the same settings as the Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane, while Quartz Desktop requires that you change the settings manually each time.
